Father’s Day Card

I just started teaching the 7 year old Sunday School class at my church. We’re talking about Gratitude, which I think is the perfect topic for Father’s Day. When we are done with our lesson we are going to make a Father’s Day Card. Directions are below: Supplies:

• Glue or glue sticks
• Scissors
• Wrapping Paper
• 8.5 x 11 piece of paper

1. Get an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper- the regular paper most of us use for our printers
2. Fold two flaps toward the center of the paper, length wise. Each will be about 1/4th of the width of the paper.
3. Flip the paper over so you see only the smooth side. Then, fold the paper about 1 1/2 inches toward you.
4. Flip the paper over again so you see the first set of folds you made.
5. Fold the paper at the end that wasn’t folded in step 3 so that it makes a ‘V” shape. If you get a ruler, you’ll find that the top of the page to the bottom of the V is about 5 1/2 inches.The flaps will be your sleeves later on. 
6. Below the fold you just made, fold the corners inward to make another “V” shape.  At the same time, you’ll be making a triangle where the neck would go if a person could wear this shirt. This “V” will be the collar in step 7. The folds I am describing aren’t flat because we’re not done with them yet.

• Rotate the paper 180 degrees so that the “V”shape you made in step 6 is at the top. The small “V” shape is now facing upside down. You can see the triangle shape better in this picture. Then, fold the bigger “V” shape toward the small “V” shape (the collar) so that you can’t see it any more. Then secure the “shirt” with the “collar” that was made with the smaller “v” shape. I didn’t use any glue to hold the shirt in place.
• Cut a strip of wrapping paper that is 4 1/2 inches long by 1 1/4 inches wide and glue it to your “shirt.” Cut another strip that is .7 inches by 1 1/2 inches and glue it at the base of the collar. This will be the knot of the tie. Congratulations, you have now made a Father’s Day Card. You may want to draw pockets on the front. There is a great space on the back for writing a little message.
